Nagamandala by Girish Karnad

This blog task is based on the thinking activity on Nagamandala by Indian English author Girish Karnad.




Q - WHO DO YOU THINK IS THE PROTAGONIST OF THE THIS PLAY? AND WHY? 

ANS - In my Opinion There are Two Protagonist In this Play. 
         
          1) RANI
         
           2) NAGA the COBRA

First one Rani is obviously the main protagonist of this play because entire play revolve around her. how she is suffering From her unfaithful husband Appanna and Seeks Different Ways to be loved by Appanna. In this way we can say that KURUDHAWA is also a Protagonist Since She Gave the magical Root to Rani for extinguish her Pain. 

NAGA is second main protagonist of the play as he gave the love to rani which she is not receiving from her unfaithful husband. 


Q - READ THE ORIGINAL TEXT AND WRITE FIVE DIALOGUES FROM THE ORIGINAL PLAY ABOUT THE FOLLOWING CHARACTER.


Rani 

  - Oh, that he does. But not a syllable more than required.    
  -  Apart from him, you are the first person I have seen since
  -Mother started shedding tears the day I matured and 
Was
  -  i am so frightened at night, I can't sleep a wink. At home,

  - I sleep between Father and Mother. But here,

  - Kurudawa can you help me, please? Will you please
Appanna

- Water! Water!

- Rani! See what is bothering the dog!

- Rani, where have you been?

- That blind woman and her son! Let them step here

- Look, I don't like idle chatter. Do as you are told, you
  understand?

Naga

- Why don't you sit? Are you so afraid of me?

- I will go and sit there. Away from you. Will you at least
 sit then?

- You are very beautiful.

- Locked up in the house all day.... You must be missing

- They doted on you, didn't they?



Q - READ THE PREFACE AND WRITE SOMETHING ABOUT The BASIC OF THE STORY. 

 
Ans - in the preface Girish Karnad give critical information about the overview of the play. And Declares that this story is Originally Based on Two Oral tales that are popular in Kernataka and several other parts of that region. And Confess that he himself Heard this Folktale from his Mentor and Write the play During his Visit as Professor at the Chicago University And Provides the Characters as they Later on appear in Play. 
       
         At last Girish Karnad Express his Gratitude Towards everyone Who Helps him in this Play.
